The Fresh for Kids F&V Gang have been incredibly busy the past few months visiting different schools and events. The Gang love to spread the Fresh for Kids message and help encourage kids to eat healthy.

Strathfield Spring Fair

Strathfield Spring Fair 2010Strathfield Council’s largest event the Strathfield Spring Fair returned this year on Sunday 24 October.

Fresh for Kids were lucky enough to be invited to attend again this year to hand out fresh fruit and Fresh for Kids promotional matrial. unfortunately it rained for most of the day but there was still a strong crowd present.

This community event featured the inaugural Strathfield Taste International food Festival, along with merchandise stalls, entertainment, roving performers, children’s activities just to name a few.

North Sydney Children's Festival

The North Sydney Children’s festival was held on Saturday 23 October, which coincided with Children’s Week. The theme for this year’s event was World of Fun and multicultural entertainment and activities were available throughout the day.

Bazza Banana and Oscar Orange were delighted that they were able to be a part of this year’s festival.

Both Bazza and Oscar mingled with the crowd throughout the day and were a huge hit with the kids. Fruit donated by Sydney Markets was also on hand for the crowd while Fresh for Kids promotional material were handed out to all the kids.

Paddy's Kids Karnival

Kids Karnival 2010Kids Karnival 2010Bazza Banana and Captain Capsicum were extremely excited when they were invited to join Ben 10 and Rory the Racing Car along with other special guests at the Kids Karnival which was held at Paddy’s Markets in Flemington.

Bazza and Captain mingled with the crowd throughout the day and were a huge hit with the kids and handed out stickers, bookmarks and wristbands to the crowd.

PSSA State Swimming Carnival

The 2010 NSW PSSA State Swimming carnival was held on over two days in April 2010. Approximately 2,000 competitors from schools throughout NSW competed at the event which was held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre attracting crowds of approximately 2,000.

Oscar Orange was a big hit with students at the swimming carnival. He was a feature of the Sydney Markets stand where he was helping hand out fruit as well as showing off his dance moves and high-fiving the competitors.

Kayak for Kids

Fresh for Kids were invited to attend the third edition of Llifestart Kayak for Kids which took place on Sunday 28 March at Clontarf Beach.

The event has been dubbed the "City2Surf on water" and saw paddlers make their way through Sydney Harbour and finish at Clontarf Beach.

Fresh for Kids set up their marquee to hand out fresh fruit to competitors and their families with Oscar Orange and Captain Capsicum also there on the day to help hand out promotional material to all the children.

Healthy Kids Food Exhibition and Training Day (Canteen Expo)

Canteen ExpoOn March 9 The Sydney Markets successful program Fresh for Kids attended the Annual Food Exhibition and Training Day.

Over 400 Canteen Managers and workers, and the people who support them, descended on the Southee Complex at Sydney Olympic Park sampling many Fresh for Kids recipe ideas which feature in our Canteen Fresh Newsletters.

Recipes that were sampled throughout the day included Kiwifruit Cups (Term 3 2009), Crunchy Recess Fruit Salad consisting of low fat vanilla yoghurt, muesli, chopped rockmelon, strawberries, Valencia oranges, pineapple and blueberries (Term 4 2009) Easy Breakfast Ideas which consisted of oats, honey, bananas and strawberries (Term 1 2010), and our Banana Menu Ideas consisting of low fat custard, chopped bananas with a sprinkle of cinnamon (Term 2 2010).

The Fresh for Kids double stand also contained information on the website, Canteen Fresh, Sydney Markets seasonal guides, canteen campaign, Fresh for Kids promotional material and general Fresh for Kids information.

This year the cooking demonstrations were the best yet. Staged in the main hall, the cooking stadium was alive with activity. Fresh for Kids sponsored Janelle Bloom, best known for her work on the popular cooking show Ready Steady Cook, kicked off the demos pleasing the crowd with her delicious rice paper rolls and tzatziki dip with veggie sticks which feature in the Canteen Fresh Term 1 2010 edition.

Cole Classic

Cole ClassicSydney may have been blanketed in rain over the Cole Classic weekend, but this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for entrants in the 27th Sydney Morning Herald Cole Classic. A record 4,500 entrants made the Cole the largest ocean swim in Australia.

Fresh for Kids were the major fruit provider for the event and participants were able to have a refreshing snack after their race.

Fresh for Kids set up their marquee and handed out promotional material to kids with Bazza Banana and Captain Capsicum only making a brief appearance due to the rainy weather.

For the first time this year swimmers had the opportunity to team with charity experts Everyday Hero and over $300,000 was raised for charity.
